The second week..

Has taken ages to reply due to moving to uni 1 day after I finished work experience!
The last week consisted of a few days in the office in the editing suite observing the boys editing an MTV chart run down which was really interesting seeing how the whole programme came together. Wednesday, I was down at the studios again for Freshly Squeezed whilst Matt and Darren interviewed DJ Fresh, Bat For Lashes and Tim Burgess!
Thursday was my favourite day of the week, as I got to assist on a shoot with The Script which they filmed with a handheld camera on the rooftop! It came out really well and they were the nicest people. Friday I was again down the studios where Freshly Squeezed films the ‘Ones to watch’ in music interviewing bands called BIGkids, The Other Tribe and Fleur. Was the best opportunity meeting lots of people and gaining contacts for future work experience and I’d like to thank David, Jim and the whole Tuskar Trust for the opportunity and would love to do some more. 1 week down...part 2

Day Three:

I was at the studios again in the morning helping out the MTV producers with the MTV chart run down of ‘The Top 80 of the 80’s’ with Sinitta! She was sweet and surprised I didn’t even recognize quite a lot of the songs being a 90’s kid! I was tempted to ask her a few things about Simon Cowell but don’t worry, I didn’t! Funnily enough, her song ‘So Macho’ was #1 in the countdown and she did an embarrassing dance to celebrate. Made the mistake of telling the producer he looked my dad which he wasn’t very happy about! He spent half the morning making comments until I took it back! I was back at the office in the afternoon doing more research and helping anyone else out who needed assistance! They are all really lovely, and were interested to know what I wanted to do as a career and it was interesting to see how they all got into this industry and what their different job roles consisted of.

Day Four:

I was at the office for the whole day today. I had to watch every single Justin Bieber music video and then watch their interview ‘Viva Bieber’ to record the music videos used which didn’t have their original song playing over the top which was quite difficult as I’m not a fan of JB! I was asked to take the tube down to Camden to the MTV studios to deliver a few parcels and pick up a Taylor Swift tape for Remedy and for the rest of the afternoon I did little jobs for the others to help things get done on time (a very important thing in a media production company!) Was so tired by the time I got home, getting up at 6 every day has killed me! It has been a great week though, can’t wait for next week!

1 week down..

Day One:

Got up early in excitement arriving at the train station armed with maps and directions only to get to Highbury and Islington and walking completely the wrong way ending up at another tube station where no one knew where St Peter’s Street was! Luckily made it in the end with 10 minutes to spare but flustered and lost due to panicking that I was going to be late! Was greeted by a friendly mentor who was the temporary house runner and he gave me a tour of the production office and editing suites before giving me my assigned seat and log in/email details. Was a quiet first day at the office, doing research for Freshly Squeezed links such as ‘This Day in Music’ finding out the history of music on that particular day and watch particular videos and record timings and record each visual such as a music video which didn’t have it’s particular song playing over the top. Was easier said than done as flashed by each second but my years of watching music channels for hours hopefully paid off! Got home about half 7 and was so knackered I pretty much went straight to bed!

Day Two:

Day at the Freshly Squeezed studio in Notting Hill! Was a surreal day, setting up the cameras and making sure the two studios/sets were ready to be filmed (they are surprisingly small!). Then Trey Songz came through the door for the first interview and shook my hand, he had extremely moisturised hands! Darren Jeffries (the presenter) was missing his usual Freshly Squeezed sidekick Matt Littler but seemed to hold his own and pull off amazing interviews throughout the morning with Trey Songz, Tinchy Stryder and Delilah. I was the runner for the day and did cable bashing whilst filming which meant I had a front row seat for the interviews and Delilah’s live acoustic performance of her latest song, she was incredible and not many people get to sit in a room with about 6 other people and be performed to!! Luckily held in my excitement and was professional. The afternoon was taken up by doing the links for the Freshly Squeezed show in the other studio, all 5 shows filmed in this afternoon! Darren’s fill in presenter was Tinchy Stryder therefore got to spend the afternoon with him which was funny, he is a nice/very small guy and we talked briefly about seafood and the book ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ which weren’t the first subjects I would have thought I’d be talking about to Tinchy Stryder! Finally finished at half 6 after getting up at 6 that morning, I was exhausted! Got home about 9 and went straight to bed!

Excited already!

I would just like to say that I am actually so happy and also grateful to obtain a work placement with the Tuskar Trust and I hope that David and Jim (and Dermot) will be proud of us all by the end of the summer!

After reading many of the recent posts by previous students working with Big Brother, X Factor and V Festival and realising how much they have enjoyed the experience, I am even more excited to find out what my work placement will be. I know that whatever it is, I will have so much fun and hopefully impress the company that I am working for. It is all amazing experience that will hopefully take me one step closer towards my extremely ambitious dream of being a TV presenter (it’s always good to set your sights high!)
My university course in Multimedia Journalism is all about getting valuable work experience as well as learning the skills therefore I feel this will give me a great head start over the other students when trying to obtain employment in the media industry.

I’d like to thank David, Jim and the Tuskar Trust for giving me this amazing opportunity and I cannot wait.
